The Bridge Mills
One of the unique and attractive aspects of Galway Language Centre is its location in The Bridge Mills, a beautiful renovated old mill situated on the River Corrib in the centre of Galway city.
From the school’s classroom windows, there is a superb view of the river below with its colony of swans and wild birds, and in the distance, Galway Bay and the hills of County Clare.
The Bridge Mills building dates from the 18th century, but milling existed on the site from the 16th century until the 1960’s. The Mills lay derelict for many years until acquired by the present owner who restored the building in 1987, carefully preserving the original stonework, timbers and millwheel.
The Mills now house Galway Language Centre, a bookshop, an antique shop, numerous craft workshops and galleries, as well as the delightful Bridge Mills Cafe with its riverside terrace, one of the most popular meeting places in Galway – and an unofficial “Common Room” for Galway Language Centre students
Galway
Galway, the commercial and cultural capital of the West Coast of Ireland, is a charming university town of 50,000, located on Galway Bay and surrounded by beautiful, unspoilt countryside.
Its fascinating history dates from the granting of its charger in 1484 by King Richard III of England. The old quarter, nestled round the Spanish Arch and the remains of the medieval city walls, has always been a favourite with visitors. Its narrow streets are filled with shops, pubs, restaurants and bookshops.
Galway’s friendly informal atmosphere, lively pub life and traditional Irish music attract visitors from all parts of the world, and its many festivals – Galway Arts Festival in July, Galway Race Week in early August and the September Oyster Festival among others – all enjoy an international reputation. „
Das GALWAY LANGUAGE CENTRE ist eine kleine, ganzjährig geöffnete Sprachschule für Erwachsene (ab 18 Jahren). Die angebotenen Kurse sind im einzelnen weiter unten beschrieben – darunter ganzjährig buchbare Kurse auf allen Vorkenntnisstufen, die in Gruppen oder auch individuell durchgeführt werden. Im Unterricht werden gezielt Materialien zu aktuellen, politischen und kulturellen Themenbereichen wie aus der irischen Kultur, Umweltfragen u.ä. eingesetzt und wird ergänzt durch den Einsatz audiovisueller Medien.

GRUPPENUNTERRICHT
1. Standardkurse – “English for General Use” (EG)
Diese Kurse sind für eine beliebige Anzahl von Wochen buchbar.
EG 20 pro Woche 170,00 € (September – Mai) , 185,00 € (Juni,Juli & August )
15 Wochenstunden in einer Gruppe von maximal 10 Personen
Verlängerungswoche kostet 155,00 €
montags bis freitags 9.00Uhr – 12.30Uhr
1 Stunde dauert 45 Minuten
Es muss mindestens ein 2-wöchiger Kurs gebucht werden.
EG 30 pro Woche 250,00 € (September – Mai), 275,00 € (Juni,Juli & August)
22,5 Wochenstunden in einer Gruppe von maximal 10 Personen
Verlängerungswoche 235,00 €
montags bis freitags 9.00Uhr – 12.30Uhr + 13:45Uhr – 16.30Uhr ,3 Nachmittage die Woche
1 Stunde dauert 45Minuten
Es muss mindestens ein 2-wöchiger Kurs gebucht werden.
Es fällt eine Registrierungsgebühr von 30,00€ an.
Die maximale Anzahl der Students pro Gruppe beträgt 10 Personen
Unterbringung: sie erfolgt bei irischen Gastfamilien im Einzelzimmer (anderes, wie Hostel, Hotel, Ferienhaus … auf Anfrage) und schließt Halbpension von montags bis freitags, am Wochenende Vollpension ein. Bei einer begrenzten Anzahl Familien sind auch Zimmer mit DU/WC verfügbar. Wegen des größeren Lernerfolgs wird im allgemeinen darauf geachtet, daß nur ein Deutscher pro Familie aufgenommen wird und so nicht in die Versuchung kommt, deutsch zu sprechen. Die Anreise bei der Familie sollte bereits am Sonntag erfolgen – die Familie oder ein Vertreter der Schule holt die Studenten am Busbahnhof oder Flughafen Galway ab. (Der normale Wochenaufenthalt ist = 7 Nächte – Sonderregelungen auf Anfrage.)
2. „English Tailor-Made“ (ETM)
Dieser Einzelunterricht wird von der Schule 5 bis 20 x pro Woche angeboten.
Die Kurse bieten sich vor allem an, wenn „spezielles Englisch“ (Geschäftsenglisch oder juristische, naturwissenschaftliche o.a. Fachsprachen) erlernt werden sollen.
